We've had a long hot / dry spell here in New Mexico..rain clouds form .. wind kicks up and I watch the rain pour down on the Sandia Mountains in front of me..but not a drop for my cucumbers. The things you take for granted as a gardener in other parts of the country do not apply here. We have sand not soil..little rain but buckets of sunshine. So take the good ..supplement ..and replenish..and learn as you live.
The art business is similar. Every place I've lived is different. The coast of Maine, mountains of North Carolina have their own obstacles. The one constant now is the internet. As artists we can reach out to an audience that is international..but it still takes a lot of cultivation and diligence on our part.
We are not just artists now but newsletter publishers, videographers, shippers, social media planners and forecasters of the future art market. Who is the buyer? What age group do they belong to? What is their budget?
These are questions we ask ourselves continually.
And then we go and create ART.
SO whoever and wherever you are I thank you for caring about the arts and hope that you will continue to support us artists..because I know ..I feel that what we do adds to the wellbeing of the inhabitants of this planet.
This piece "Shock Therapy..or How I spent my Summer Vacation" was juried into an online gallery show via a newly formed Artist Alliance group created by gallery owner Jen Tough new to Santa Fe NM.
